Sky River Mead

Taking a little bit of a departure from our average beer rating and going with something that our favorite home brewer Sterling Blackheart introduced me to a couple of weeks ago... mead! I just happened to be at the liquor store in Monroe and asked if they had any since I really enjoyed Sterling's version. They actually had some, so I bought a bottle of Sky River Mead.
First, they have great information on their website... go check it out for some history and general information about this beautiful concoction called honey wine. Second, the tasting... It definitely had a stronger wine taste than I expected after tasting Sterling's mead. Sterling served his at 12% ABV plus but you couldn't tell at all. It was still very good, though, but does taste more like a chardonay or similar white wine made of grapes.
I will have to warn you that it doesn't transition well from beer. We were having a bit of a fire in the cul-de-sac and I decided to pull out the half gone bottle of mead and it didn't go well. The cul-de-sac wasn't impressed either.
All in all, if you are looking for something a little different, try this one. It isn't to die for or anything, but it isn't half bad either... for a white wine, at least. :)
